Representing You and Your Business

Joining the Chamber can ensure your voice is heard

Representation is an important focus of the Chamber. We use our position within the business community to voice the interests of members on issues covering all aspects of industry, trade and commerce. We constantly seek ways to express the views of our members and actively promote their business interests at a local level, as part of the national Chamber movement (BCC) and on an international scale when required.

Because the Chamber receives no government funding, we are independent enough to challenge key issues that could have an adverse effect on members trading conditions and we are a strong focal point for communicationwith other decision-making bodies. Through Chamber, businesses belong to a totally independent pressure group which is there to represent their interests. The organisation has no political affiliations or interests whatsoever.

Government
The national Chamber organisation, British Chambers of Commerce, meets regularly with Government. Through the Chamber, members and their business can lobby on matters of legislation and policy from interest rates to tax and from the contents of the annual budget to Government initiatives as and when they affect business. We also have regular contact with local AMs/MPs.

Regional Affairs
Through our strong involvement with Chamber Wales (Siambr Cymru), we have a powerful voice in matters of regional significance and liaise with bodies such as the National Assembly, the Welsh Office, the Welsh Development Agency and the Welsh Local Government Association.

Local Regional and National Media
As the voice of Gwent's business community, we maintain very close links with our local and regional media promoting the concerns and interests of our members.

Local Interests
We have developed strong lines of communication with the Unitary Authorities, Educational establishments, DELL and with other organisations. We constantly seek to identify those issues which are of most concern to our members and to project their views to those people having power to influence the business environment.
